“I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it.  They will be yours for food.”

GOD | Genesis 1:29

The Seventh-day Adventist Church recognises the autonomy of each individual and their God-given power of choice.  Rather than mandating standards of behavior, Adventists call upon on another to live as positive examples of God’s love and care.

Part of that example includes taking care of our health as we believe God calls us to care for our bodies, treating them with the respect a divine creation deserves.  Gluttony and excess, even of something good, can be detrimental to our health.

Adventists believe the key to wellness lies in a life of balance and temperance.

Nature creates a wealth of good things that lead to vibrant health… pure water, fresh air and sunlight… promote clean, healthy lives.

Exercise and avoidance of harmful substances such as tobacco, alcohol and mind-altering substances lead to clarity of mind and wise choices.   A well-balanced vegetarian | vegan | plant-based diet that avoids the consumption of meat coupled with intake of legumes, whole grains, nuts, fruits and vegetables, will promote vigorous health.

Health is a gift from a loving God who wants us to live life in its abundance.  When we benefit from such love, we feel a sense of gratitude and appreciation toward our Creator.  Because of this, we choose to praise God with joyful living.

History

Ellen White | Christian Author & Co-founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church

Since its organization as a denomination in the mid-19th century, the Seventh-day Adventist Church has been advocating the counsel of the church’s primary health reformer, Ellen White, who emphasized the role of lifestyle in promoting health, happiness, and enhanced spirituality.

“Pure air, sunlight, abstemiousness, rest, exercise, proper diet, use of water, trust in divine power - these are the true remedies.”

Consequently, it is not surprising that research on the health of Seventh-day Adventists since the 1950s has shown that they appear to enjoy low rates of chronic diseases and lower total mortality, despite living in areas where chronic diseases are prevalent.

Science is only now validating the significance of this nineteenth century counsel and its importance for physical and mental health, as chronic disease rates escalate in the 21st century.
